78 Appin Road is an early 19th century stone cottage within the historic village of Appin, built from locally quarried stone with jerkin head gables characteristic of the area's earliest period of development. Restore was engaged to prepare a Schedule of Conservation Works, along with a deconstruction/reconstruction methodology and drawings for the verandah.

The schedule provides a detailed methodology to guide the repair and conservation of the retained portions of the building, forming part of the approved permit once accepted by the Principal Certifying Authority. Our work drew on the property's Council-endorsed Statement of Significance, recognising it as an excellent example of early 19th century construction, and an important component of Appin's historic village landscape, to ensure the coursed stonework, bullnosed verandah and other distinguishing features are conserved with methods appropriate to their heritage value.
