Carlton North
Heritage Restoration & Extension
Client: Owner, Carlton North House
672 Station Street is a narrow, heritage-listed residence on a dense inner-city block in Carlton North. Restore was engaged to lead the project from concept design through to lodgement of the Town Planning Application, which is currently under assessment with Council.
The brief centres on a rear extension and full reconfiguration of the internal layout — adding two new bathrooms, and reworking the kitchen, living, dining, laundry and storage areas — while maximising the rear yard and opening the living spaces out to it. Working within a tight urban footprint, heritage obligations, neighbouring interfaces and constrained site access left little room for error in any direction. Having carried the design through to submission, we are now preparing the construction documentation, ready to proceed once planning approval is secured.
The project reflects our approach to heritage-sensitive design in complex urban settings — balancing the constraints of a narrow, heritage-listed site with a considered, functional response for the people who will live in it.
